Learn With Numbers

About

Who we are and what we want to do

We are a team of academics and middle school teachers concerned about falling literacy and numeracy rates, and hopeful that we can help turn them around. We want to build lessons you can benefit from whether you are learning, teaching, or practicing. We are so excited that you are here and hope we can share our excitement for a data-literate future.

In our experience teaching at the K–12 and undergraduate levels, we found data projects to be very engaging and educational for students. Analyzing datasets they built themselves and showing charts they made increased the students' self-confidence and helped them build critical thinking and analytical storytelling skills.

Founder and instructor

Meet Mr. Sun!

Mr. Sun is the founder of LWN and teaches its courses. He holds a Master’s in Economics from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Economics from Trinity University. He studied abroad for a year at the London School of Economics, where he received the LSE Widening Participation Tutor of the Year Award and was published in the LSE Working Papers Journal.

His mission to increase data literacy took shape while he was an Instructor at Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth, teaching classes such as Fundamentals of Microeconomics and Introduction to Computer Programming. The feedback he received from CTY parents, students, and staff convinced him there's a growing need for data education at the K–12 level.

He has also served as an Institutional Research Analyst at UT Austin and helped Hawaiʻi DOE public schools implement AI and data science education from the middle school to the high school level.
