Learn With Numbers

Support

Help us build a numerate future

Every lesson we publish is free and stays free. This page is for people who want to help keep it that way.

Learn With Numbers exists for one reason: we believe every student can learn to understand, question, and create with data, and that this shouldn’t cost their family anything.

So every lesson we publish is free, and it stays free, along with every dataset and notebook you need to follow along. All of it runs on tools that cost nothing, like Google Sheets, Google Colab, and R. The only thing that isn’t free is the time it takes to build it well. Researching a project, preparing real datasets, recording, editing, and writing homework that actually teaches all take hours.

If the lessons have been useful to you or your kids, or if you simply want more young people who can look at a statistic and ask “says who? measured how?”, you can help keep this running.

Give monthly

The steadiest way to support the mission is a small monthly amount on Patreon. That’s what lets us plan projects months ahead.

Become a patron

What your support builds

  • More projects, faster. Each project, like our Sibling Interviews study or the World Cup forecast, takes weeks of dataset-building, scripting, and editing before the first lesson goes up.
  • Materials teachers can actually use. Each project comes with a classroom kit: lesson plans, quizzes, and printables. The kit is a patron benefit.
  • Independence. No sponsors deciding what we teach.

Support without money

Money is one kind of support. These four are just as real:

  • Share a lesson with one teacher, parent, or student who’d use it.
  • Do the homework and post your results. Every completed field task makes the next student braver.
  • Correct us. If we get a number wrong, say so in the comments. Public fact-checking IS data literacy.
  • Take the survey in Lesson 1.0 and become part of the dataset the course learns from.

The small print

Is my donation tax-deductible? No. Learn With Numbers is an independent education project, not a registered charity, so gifts are not tax-deductible.

Do donors get extra lessons? No. Every lesson video is free. Patrons get the classroom kit (lesson plans, quizzes, printables), behind-the-scenes updates, and a vote on upcoming projects. Lessons themselves are not gated.

Where does the money actually go? Production time, datasets and hosting, and the free-tools ecosystem around the course (teacher packs, printable homework, the website). If the project ever grows beyond that, we’ll say so on this page.
