Primary data

What is primary data?

Data you collected yourself, so you know exactly how it was made.

Primary data is data you gathered with your own hands. You know who you asked, what you asked them, what you did when someone gave a strange answer, and what you left out.

We start Project 1 with primary data on purpose. A student who has collected their own sample from scratch knows how many decisions go into making a dataset.

From our own dataset

Your interview notebook and the dataset you made from it.
